My Fandom Story

I'm not really sure since I was probably 5 or 6 years old but my mom, who was a great fan of the Beatles, use to play some videos and I remember listening to Twist and Shout. I had no idea what the song said, I did not know english back then. Two songs I remember clearly from those days are Twist and Shout and She Loves You.

Since then I had the feeling that I knew who the Beatles were and how important they were, how catchy where their songs but they were more like a thing my mom liked, no more than that. Nothing that seemed to appeal to me.

I remember that over those years they started broadcasting the cartoon series. It was really funny, the thing I remember more clearly is they way they made Ringo, he looked so peculiar as if he was the most comic part of the show. There are still some episodes in internet and make me feel surprise since I did not remember all the songs that appeared in the show. They are a lot.

It was still like a rumour because they were so famous and I remember that I heard a lot of crazy stories about John Lennon and his tragic fate. There were no internet in the 80's so all we knew was in the newspapers and on tv so the information was so manipulated.

It was until 1998 that I had a chance to listen to the Anthology, it was spectacular since all the memories seemed to come back to my mind. It was fantastic to have a chance to listen to music that was new to me even though it was not new at all, not only because of the fact that I did not know a lot about the Beatles but also because of the fact that this material was never heard before, well, at least a good part of it.

After I had this chance to get into the Beatles music I wanted to get the records. Back then I could get 2 cassettes, one of them was 20 greatest hits and the other one was Beatles For Sale, for obvious reasons I liked 20 greatest hits more.

Now I know that probably Beatles For Sale was not a good approach to the Beatles music, for a newbie I would recommend to start with either A Hard Day's Night or the Pastmasters collection and then move to Please Please Me and Help!, then Beatles For Sale and Rubber Soul, then probably With The Beatles, I don't know, probably going chronologically would be better.

So far I have watched all the movies and most documentaries, I wouldn't date to say that I have seen all of them since there is a lot and it would be really difficult to get them all.

I know that it would have been great to see The Beatles on Ed Sullivan or at least to live the beatlemania as my mom did, right at the moment but I'm so glad to be able to enjoy a lot of new releases and projects.
